CLASSES WITH RHAVI CARNEIRO:
EXPERIENCE &
CONCLUSION
This week I signed up for Professor Rhavi Carneiro's
free week of classes. For those who don't know, I'm already graduated in English
(Cultura Inglesa | 2017), but I still have some difficulty understanding native
speakers. And with this difficulty, I went to Rhavi. The person demonstrates a
certainty, a promise that will revolutionize the way of learning English. The
guy says that the old methods are not effective. Then the week started: FLUENCY
WEEK.
CLASS 01:
- He explains how the method he invented to learn the
five languages he speaks, called FLUENCY HACKING, works. According to him,
what we learn most (Grammar), is the center of the planet. However the surface,
which is the practice, the courses leave something to be desired. And this is
the ace in the role: starting from the surface to the nucleus. So far I agreed.
- Throughout the video he puts testimonials from
students who speak normal as well as students who actually study in the course. I
saw no difference in the quality of students. What's more, some students,
notoriously, are reading their testimonies.
- Another point worth mentioning: Rhavi Carneiro has
studied English since he was 6 years old. That is, he lived (and lives) for
this, for this study. Imagine a person who started working at 16 with
his father (in the hoe), who has already gone to another college, who has
another job and who, in order to grow up, wants to do English. They are totally
different worlds. The second has to find a place in his head to start learning
English. The first (Rhavi) only lives that.
CLASS 02:
He takes a dialogue and explains it sentence by
sentence. Example:
"What do you want to eat?"
He says the translation and explains, in a very basic way, what 'What' is and when using 'Do'. But the grammar, one day, the
student, willing or not, will have to learn, because to formulate sentences it
is not just what he said there.
In the sixth sentence, it gives a nice touch, which is
about phrases that the natives shorten. Ex.:
"What do you do?" - they don't talk like
that slowly. Do they say 'uarayã do'?
"What do you think? - they say 'uarayã think'.
CLASS 03:
It's an interesting class, but for those who took a
course and really studied, it doesn't change anything. It explains the
pronunciation of -th, -rl and -ed.
CLASS 04:
Last class: it reveals the great secret to fluency in
five languages. He says it is the SRS (Spaced Repetition System) software. or THE
MAGIC, as he says. This he does in 3-4 minutes. The rest of the video is about
the Fluency Academy, which, of course, is paid.
CONCLUSION:
I. The Rhavi Carneiro1's course is the same thing as a 'normal' course.
II. His differential is that he, unlike some courses
(say 'teachers') shows passion for what he does. His oratory and charisma are
excellent, which draws people's attention.
III. Everything you learn from it you also learn in a
course called 'normal'. But I think he sells the false illusion that "IT
IS EVERYTHING DIFFERENT", since it was supposedly different for him (SQN,
because he started studying English at the age of 6).
IV. It doesn't matter which course you enter/take!
It doesn't matter if you hire a famous teacher! What will make a difference in
whether or not you learn another language is that you "just" sit your
butt on the chair and study. It's like a diet: it's no use having the best
personal trainer or the most famous on youtube. If you don't follow the diet,
you won't lose weight.
